Seidel. Photographic Work in the Past and Present | exhibition

From March 31st to August 30th, 2026, the exhibition halls on the ground floor of the Regional Museum in Český Krumlov will host the exhibition "Seidel. Photographic Work in the Past and Present", which for the first time in many years will present an extraordinary range of photographic works by Josef and František Seidel, together with authentic period objects from the museum's collections and those of important domestic and foreign institutions. The exhibition symbolically follows on from the twenty years of modern existence of the Museum Fotoatelier Seidel and commemorates the extraordinary significance of Seidel's work as a unique visual testimony to the Šumava region, its life, landscape, and extinct places.

The grand opening will take place on March 31, 2026, at 6 p.m.

  | Opening of the exhibition Seidel. Photographic Work in the Past and Today. The photographic work of Josef and František Seidel presented on an exceptional scale, together with authentic period objects from the museum’s collections as well as from significant Czech and international institutions.
• April 14^th from 6:00 PM – Regional Museum in Český Krumlov
  | “Jazz Band of the Schwarzenberg Grenadier Guard” – an evening with Seidel photographs and music that entertained Krumlov dancers during the First Republic. In cooperation with the Český Krumlov Chamber Music Festival. Admission 100 CZK, reservations: www.seidel.cz
• April 21^st from 6:00 PM – Regional Museum in Český Krumlov
  | “Vanished Villages and the Borders of States and the Borders Within Us” – lecture by Jiří Padevět, writer, journalist and director of Academia Publishing House, recipient of the Magnesia Litera Award, and Jindřich Špinar, historian, writer, head of the Manuscripts and Early Printed Books Department of the Research Library in České Budějovice, recipient of the Šumava Litera Award. • May 5^th from 6:00 PM – Regional Museum in Český Krumlov
  | “The Phenomenon of the Heart of the Vltava” – lecture by Petr Pavelec, director of the Territorial Heritage Administration of the National Heritage Institute in České Budějovice, curator of the exhibition The Famous and Navigable Vltava. Admission 30 CZK
• May 12^nd from 6:00 PM – Regional Museum in Český Krumlov
  | “Reportage in the Photographs of Both Seidels” – presentation by Petr Hudičák, curator of the Museum Fotoatelier Seidel. Lecture with a slideshow of reportage photographs, which were an integral part of the craft of both Josef and František Seidel. Admission 30 CZK
• May 29^th from 7:00 PM to 11:00 PM – Museum Fotoatelier Seidel
  | “Museum Night at the Seidels” – costumed guided tours of Seidel’s Art Nouveau photo studio. Part of the Festival of Museum Nights organized by the Association of Museums and Galleries of the Czech Republic. Free admission
• June 2^nd from 6:00 PM – Regional Museum in Český Krumlov
  | “The Šumava Museum in Horní Planá” – lecture by Ivan Slavík, curator of the Regional Museum in Český Krumlov. On July 8, 1923, the first Šumava museum was founded; at the height of its fame it offered exhibitions in 16 rooms and welcomed around 5,000 visitors annually. Part of the original exhibits are still preserved in the collections of the Regional Museum. Admission 30 CZK
• June 5^th from 7:00 PM – Regional Museum in Český Krumlov
  | “The Magic of Stereophotography. Old Šumava in Unique Three-Dimensional Images (Not Only) from the Seidel Photo Studio” – presentation by Matěj Boháč. The premiere screening of newly restored photographs will show that even a hundred years ago photographers knew how to use spatial imaging techniques. Part of the Festival of Museum Nights organized by the Association of Museums and Galleries of the Czech Republic. Within the Czech-Austrian project Interreg ATCZ00187. Free admission
• July 14^th from 6:00 PM – Regional Museum in Český Krumlov
  | “The Year 2007: Completion of Revitalization and Preparation of the Museum Fotoatelier Seidel Exhibition” – presentation by Petr Hudičák. Continuation of the story of the restoration of this unique monument – the renovation and opening of the Art Nouveau villa to the public. Admission 30 CZK
